Religion vs. Spirituality as a Healing Practice

Every day, people across the United States deal with mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

These challenges, brought on through years of pain and fear, have led to skyrocketing rates of unemployment, homelessness, substance abuse, and lack of fulfillment in life.

In this article, we’re exploring two common practices for warriors: religion and spirituality. We’ll work to define each of these terms, and talk about which might be right for you.

What is Religion?

This might feel like an obvious question, but it’s important to understand religious practice.

It’s important to understand that religion is not spirituality.

Religion is the belief in and worship of a divine, all-controlling power. This worship usually manifests through a God, as is in the case of Christianity.

Religion says that if you follow a given set of rules, you will find fulfillment and peace in life. While this is nice in theory, many people struggle with religion because it doesn’t actually fit within their ideal lifestyle.

For many, the structure of religion is a path to peace of mind. But for warriors that are seeking a more personalized approach to wellness, there is another option.

What is Spirituality?

Unlike religion, spirituality doesn’t concern itself with rules and regulations.

Spirituality is addressing the deeper needs of the human soul as opposed to material objects or things. There is no tithe or specific requirements — it’s all about walking the path that fulfills your unique divine purpose

There is no right way to practice spirituality.

The soul is the essence of individuality, hope, and passion. Through a dedicated spiritual practice, you can discover unmatched fulfillment that works in accordance with your particular being.

How to Practice Spirituality

Here at Ascended Warrior, we believe that key to a happy life lies within a spiritual practice.

That’s why we’ve created a community of warrios just like you that are dedicated to finding fulfillment in life, all while overcoming the challenges they have been called to face.

In order to find your own spiritual practice, you must look inward.

And when you do, you’ll find it possible to:

  • Set and meet realistic goals
  • Cultivate communicative, loving relationships
  • Find fulfillment from your career and personal pursuits

It makes commitment — and it’s not easy.
